Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy

What is BCST?

Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle hands-on approach that helps a person tap into their own inner resources for health and healing. The therapist allows the body to reveal the key areas to work on, and then they support the process of change and reorientation towards health. Using detailed knowledge of anatomy and physiology, the therapist explores the subtle rhythms, releases, and adjustments as they occur. People often report feelings of calm and relaxation as this happens, particularly as BCST helps to balance the nervous system.

Why do people come for BCST treatments?

It can be helpful for a variety of conditions including migraines, digestive issues, sports injuries including concussions, chronic pain syndromes, anxiety, and depression. Some people come for stress relief and as part of a proactive approach to their health and well-being. BCST can be very useful to help the body work through traumatic events or injuries and even for the mystery aches and pains that don’t seem to have an identifiable cause. As these mystery pains (or other strange symptoms) are often diagnosed as Somatoform Disorder or as being psycho-somatic in nature, it can be a challenging road to find relief. Lisa was once diagnosed with this herself, and she now seeks to share what she’s learned about the mindbody (and Spirit) connection, and how this can be used for deep healing.

What about during pregnancy and for babies?

Many women seek BCST during pregnancy to help their bodies adjust to their growing baby, as well as in preparation for delivery. Babies can respond very quickly to this work as they re-align themselves to health following the profound experience of birth. Sessions are often done with mom and her baby together, as they are of course a unit unto themselves.

What does a session look like?

During the first session, there is an exploration of your health history and any current problems you may be seeking relief from. Every session after that starts with a check-in to see how you are doing. Then you’ll lie fully clothed on a massage table, while the therapist gently places her hands on different areas of the body for 35-45 minutes. Sometimes there is a guided meditation component, along with an exploration of your sense of body awareness.  There will be a few minutes at the end for reflections and questions. It’s highly recommended to schedule some downtime, even a short walk in the park or something else you enjoy, after each treatment.
